Increase Mather papers, 1659-1721.

Papers of Rev. Increase Mather, Congregational clergyman, including two diaries, kept from 25 Mar. 1675 - 7 Dec. 1676, and 1691; a memorandum with his account of the hearing on the charges against Sir Edmund Andros (1690); and writings, including "Mystery of Israel's Salvation" (1669); "Dissertation concerning the future conversion of the Jewish nation" (1695-1696); and "Some important truths about conversion, delivered in sundry sermons" (1672). Diary entries are mainly spiritual musings and notes on Mather's ministerial duties including the study and preparation of sermons, and lectures delivered at various churches including the First Church and Third Church in Boston, Mass. Mather also comments on current events including Indian attacks and smallpox outbreaks in Massachusetts and Virginia. The 1675-76 diary includes "Dr. Butler's Receipt," a recipe for health tonic. The 1691 diary is interleaved in Rider's Astronomical Diary for 1691.
